Venom II — True Ending

Last updated: June 2026

Overview

Venom II is the true ending stage of Star Fox 64, reached exclusively from Area 6 after completing the hard route or the Macbeth train shortcut. This enhanced finale features everything from the normal Venom stage plus a mandatory four-part Star Wolf battle and Andross's terrifying true brain form. It represents the ultimate reward for mastering Star Fox 64's branching route system.

On Nintendo Switch 2, Venom II delivers the most cinematic ending sequence in the game — General Pepper's rescue, the complete team celebration, and the revelation of Andross's true nature. The 200-hit medal threshold makes it the most demanding final stage.

Route Triggers

Venom II is the campaign finale with no exits:

  • True ending complete: Defeat Star Wolf and Andross's true form to trigger the genuine ending cinematic. No further stages exist.

Entry requires completing Area 6, which itself requires either perfect Sector Z missile defense (hard route) or the Macbeth train shortcut. There is no other path to Venom II.

Boss Strategy

Star Wolf (sequential): Wolf O'Donnell, Leon Powalski, Pigma Dengar, and Andrew Oikonny engage one at a time in all-range combat above Venom. Each member uses their signature ship and tactics. Wolf is aggressive and direct, Leon is evasive, Pigma is slow but heavily armored, and Andrew relies on gadget attacks.

Defeat each member with charged shots before the next engages. Do not waste smart bombs on early members — save bombs for Andross's true form. Wingmates duel Star Wolf independently, which helps but do not rely on them for the final blows.

Andross (true form): After Star Wolf falls, Andross reveals his true form — a giant disembodied brain protected by a stone face decoy. Peppy's critical advice: "Don't trust the eyes!" Shoot the brain directly, not the stone face. The brain pulses with energy and launches projectiles from its surface. When Andross inhales, loop away from the suction. The brain form has more health than the standard Andross head but follows similar attack rhythms. After defeating the brain, the tunnel collapse escape sequence plays with James McCloud's spirit guide.

Medal Tips

Venom II requires 200 hits — the highest final stage threshold. The Venom surface defense segment before Star Wolf provides initial scoring opportunities identical to normal Venom. Star Wolf members each yield substantial hits — defeat all four for roughly 40-60 combined points.

Andross's true form provides limited but high-value hit opportunities on the brain surface. Maximize surface segment hits before Star Wolf engages because the underground sections offer fewer targets. Save at least one smart bomb for Andross's brain form. This is the final medal in a hard route campaign totaling 1,250 hits — see the all medals guide for campaign-wide planning.

Wingmate Advice

Wingmates fight Star Wolf alongside Fox in the all-range battle above Venom — this is the only final boss sequence where wingmates participate. Falco duels Wolf, Slippy handles Pigma, and Peppy covers Leon. Let wingmates contribute but ensure you land finishing blows for hit score credit.

All wingmates must survive the entire campaign for Expert Mode and the best ending narration. After Star Wolf falls, Fox enters Andross's lair alone — wingmates do not follow into the brain chamber. Peppy's "Don't trust the eyes!" call is the most important wingmate advice in the game — follow it precisely during the true Andross fight.

Switch 2 Remake Notes

Venom II is the reward for completing the hardest routing path in Star Fox 64. The Star Wolf sequential battle tests all-range combat skills accumulated across the campaign. Andross's true brain form has significantly more health than the standard head — conserve smart bombs for this final phase. The true ending cinematic with General Pepper's rescue is exclusive to this path and worth the effort of mastering Zoness stealth and Sector Z missile defense.
