Bolse — Defense Satellite

Last updated: June 2026

Overview

Bolse is the defense satellite penultimate stage, reached from Titania on the easy route, Macbeth on the medium route, or as a fallback from Sector Z if a missile hit Great Fox. Fox McCloud leads an assault on Bolse — a massive orbital defense platform protected by six outer shield generators. Destroying the generators disables the force field and exposes the station core.

Bolse always routes to Venom and the normal ending. Star Wolf may intercept here depending on your campaign performance, adding a challenging optional encounter before the station assault.

Route Triggers

Bolse has a single exit:

  • Venom (automatic): Destroy the Bolse defense platform to proceed to Venom. There are no alternate exits — Bolse always leads to the normal ending regardless of performance.

Players aiming for the true ending should never reach Bolse — the hard route bypasses it entirely through Sector Z and Area 6. Arriving at Bolse means the true ending is no longer possible for the current playthrough.

Boss Strategy

Bolse Defense Outpost: The station itself serves as the boss. Six shield generators orbit the central core — destroy all six to disable the force field protecting the core. Each generator takes several charged shots to eliminate.

After the shields fall, enemy fighters swarm from the station and the core becomes targetable. Focus fire on the glowing core center with charged shots and smart bombs. Star Wolf may appear before or during the assault — if Wolf O'Donnell and his team intercept, defeat each member individually before resuming the station attack. Star Wolf's presence does not change routing but adds significant difficulty. The core pulses with energy between attack phases — shoot during the bright pulse windows for maximum damage.

Medal Tips

Bolse requires 150 hits for the medal. Shield generators each contribute hit points when destroyed, and the fighter swarms after shield deactivation provide abundant targets. Star Wolf members also yield hits if they appear.

Destroy all six generators efficiently with charged shots — do not waste smart bombs on generators that are nearly destroyed. Save smart bombs for the fighter swarm phase and core assault when enemies cluster. If Star Wolf appears, their ships provide substantial hit bonuses — defeat each member with charged shots for maximum points. See the medal requirements page for context within your route's total threshold.

Wingmate Advice

Wingmates are critical during the Bolse fighter swarm phase. Falco and Peppy engage Star Wolf effectively if they appear — let them duel while you focus on shield generators and the core. Slippy may need rescue during the chaotic multi-target phase when fighters surround the formation.

Keep all wingmates alive through Bolse — losing a member here affects Venom's ending narration and disqualifies Expert Mode progress. Coordinate smart bomb usage to clear fighter clusters threatening damaged wingmates.

Switch 2 Remake Notes

Bolse's shield generators orbit the station in a fixed pattern — learn their order to destroy them efficiently without wasting charged shots on nearly-destroyed nodes. Star Wolf's appearance at Bolse depends on your campaign performance and route history; they appear more frequently if you have been scoring well. Arriving at Bolse confirms you are on the normal ending path — Area 6 and Venom II are no longer reachable this run.

After the force field drops, enemy fighters spawn in continuous waves from the station hangars. Alternate between core damage and fighter cleanup to build hit score while preventing wingmate damage from swarms.
