Sector X — Hidden Base

Last updated: June 2026

Overview

Sector X is a hidden Andross base concealed within the asteroid belt, reached from Fichina on the easy route. Fox McCloud flies the Arwing through the base's interior corridors, battling enemy fighters and navigating mechanical obstacles. The stage features a secret hatch that opens an alternate path to Macbeth, making Sector X a routing crossroads between the easy and medium/hard paths.

Sector X ends with a rematch against Spyborg — the same robotic assassin from Fichina, now fought with Arwing weapons instead of the Landmaster tank. Standard completion routes to Titania on the easy route.

Route Triggers

Sector X presents two exits:

  • Titania (standard): Complete the base interior and defeat Spyborg normally. This continues the easy route to Titania's Landmaster rescue mission.
  • Macbeth (secret hatch): Destroy the secret hatch on the far wall of the base's main chamber. The hatch reveals a hidden tunnel that routes directly to Macbeth, connecting to the medium route's train stage or the path toward Area 6.

On the standard easy route, ignore the hatch and proceed to Titania. The hatch is useful for players who want to reach Macbeth's train shortcut to Area 6 without playing through Solar or Zoness first.

Boss Strategy

Spyborg (rematch): The same spider-like robot from Fichina, fought in Arwing combat this time. Spyborg clings to walls and ceilings of the base interior, firing laser bursts and attempting to grab your Arwing.

Use charged laser shots on Spyborg's central body. Barrel roll through laser fire and loop to escape grab attempts. Spyborg's wall-climbing behavior means it frequently disappears from view — listen for mechanical movement cues to predict its next attack angle. Smart bombs are effective when Spyborg drops to the floor level for a direct assault. The Arwing's superior mobility compared to the Landmaster makes this rematch slightly easier despite identical attack patterns.

Medal Tips

Sector X requires 150 hits for the medal. The base interior contains hidden side passages with extra enemies and supply rings — explore thoroughly rather than rushing to the boss. Enemies embedded in the base structure often appear in clusters ideal for smart bomb deployment.

Destroying the secret hatch itself grants hit points, but doing so changes your routing to Macbeth. On an easy route medal run, skip the hatch and focus on clearing all interior enemies before the Spyborg fight. Hidden enemies in alcoves and side tunnels are easy to miss on a first pass.

Wingmate Advice

Wingmates fly alongside Fox in the Sector X base interior. The narrow corridors can cause wingmates to collide with walls and take damage — clear obstacles and enemies ahead of the formation. Falco may chase enemies into side passages; ensure he does not get separated and overwhelmed.

Slippy is vulnerable in tight spaces where barrel rolls have limited room. Destroy turrets and obstacles before the formation reaches them. Peppy identifies the secret hatch location with a radio call — follow his guidance if you want the Macbeth shortcut.

Switch 2 Remake Notes

Sector X's secret hatch is marked by a slightly different wall texture — on Switch 2 the enhanced textures make it easier to identify on repeat runs. The base interior has more side passages than most corridor stages; explore every alcove for hidden enemies that contribute to the 150-hit medal. Destroying the hatch mid-run immediately changes your route — decide before entering the main chamber whether you want Titania or Macbeth.
